Spike & Dive
Volleyball is a dynamic team sport distinguished by powerful spikes, forceful blocks, and agile defensive dives, where strong teamwork and communication are essential for success. This non-contact sport features teams separated by a high net, tailored to match specifications: 2.43 meters for men's games and 2.24 meters for women's. Despite the towering net, volleyball is not reserved for the tall, as exemplified by prominent liberos—nimble defensive specialists who excel in backline positions.
Rules
Volleyball rules revolve around strategic play and teamwork, with each team consisting of six players on the court. The objective is to score points by sending the ball over the net and grounding it onto the opponent’s side, or by causing the opponent to commit errors. Teams rotate players through different positions, enabling each to serve, attack, and defend, but are limited to three touches per possession before the ball must be sent back over the net. Matches are played in sets, usually best-of-five, with the first team to reach 25 points (and leading by at least two) winning a set; the decisive set, if necessary, is played to 15 points.
