Jiu-Jitsu Makes its Debut at the Islamic Solidarity Games
For the first time in its history, Jiu-Jitsu will feature as an official sport at the Islamic Solidarity Games (Riyadh 2025).
Competitions kick off Thursday at the Combat Hall in Prince Faisal bin Fahad Sports City and will run for two days.
Unlike striking-based martial arts, Jiu-Jitsu focuses on grappling, submissions, and positional control. Athletes aim to make their opponents submit through joint locks and chokeholds. Each bout lasts 5 minutes for men and 4 minutes for women, and takes place on a specialised mat.
Indecision Led Zineb to Her Passion
At the start of her sports journey, Moroccan athlete Zineb Hassoun struggled to decide which discipline to pursue under her country’s flag.
She debated between Karate and Taekwondo, but ultimately found herself drawn to Wrestling — even as doubts lingered about her long-term potential in the sport.
Years later, Zineb has become fully devoted to Wrestling, both as a competitor and a passionate follower. She now eagerly awaits her turn to compete at Riyadh 2025, embracing the very sport she once hesitated to choose.
